Emily
Most people know respiratory syncytial virus by its initials, RSV. Though RSV most often affects infants, adults can also contract the virus. RSV is a common and very contagious respiratory tract infection. And for Emily, it was life-threatening.
When Emily, 27, was hospitalized with RSV, she underwent a tracheostomy and was placed on a ventilator. She came to Vibra Hospital of Denver with five chest tubes, a trach, feeding tube, and no voice. The goal was for Emily to wean from the ventilator and feeding tube, and move on to rehabilitation.
After just two weeks, Emily improved so much she was ready for rehabilitation. She transitioned to Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital of Denver for the next stage of her recovery. Her trach and tubes removed, Emily can now eat, speak, and walk without an assistive device.
The staff at Vibra Hospital of Denver are sad that Emily’s polite and warm presence are leaving, but overjoyed at her progress.
