Wendy Shaw

Before her illness, Wendy Shaw enjoyed an active and independent life. She loved taking daily walks, spending time with friends, visiting local breweries, and listening to live music.

That all came to a sudden stop when Wendy suffered a cardiac arrest at home. At the hospital, doctors discovered a major brain bleed and began emergency treatment. The event left her facing a long and challenging recovery.

When Wendy was ready for the next phase of her healing, her care team referred her to Vibra Hospital of Denver, a critical care hospital specializing in extended recovery and rehabilitation for patients with complex medical needs.

When she arrived at Vibra Hospital, Wendy faced significant challenges. Everyday activities that had once been routine now required assistance, and regaining her independence felt like a distant goal.

But with determination and the support of her care team, Wendy began making steady progress. Working closely with her physicians, nurses, physical therapist, and occupational therapist, she focused on healing and rebuilding her strength.

Wendy made incredible progress. Today, she is walking again and can independently complete daily tasks such as brushing her teeth, getting dressed, and caring for herself.

She credits Branden, her physical therapist, and Nicole, her occupational therapist, for helping her regain both her mobility and confidence.

“They really helped me get out and walking,” she said. “And they helped give me the confidence I needed.”

As she looks ahead, Wendy is excited about something many people take for granted: being independent again. She looks forward to spending time with friends and family, getting back out into the community, and doing things for herself.
